Ken Ficara: Harmonica, delay and loop system

Produced by Ken Ficara

Recorded on Green Street

Chatter and noise. Makes me wanna holler. The background loops on this piece are what the blather on television news and talk radio sounds like to me. And that blather seems to be drowning everything else out.

Those background loops were created with Kent Jolly's AudioPalette, a generative looping program for the iPad. This piece started with a single two-note harmonica riff, which I sampled into a Korg ESX. I sequenced it and filtered it and malformed it in various ways, then looped short pieces of the result into AudioPalette. I used that as the background, allowing to loop by itself and modifying the loops, with the entire thing running into loops on the EHX. Then I played and looped live harmonica over it.

This is my January 15 contribution to ImprovFriday.
